When we first joined the blogosphere, we discovered that our posts were getting discovered by Technorati faster than they were getting indexed by Google. (Of course, we didn’t know the difference between Technorati and Transformers, back then, and I’m not sure much has changed right now.)

Although strictly not a social networking site like our WebDiggin facebook profile, our our WebDiggin MySpace profile, or our WebDiggin Twitter profile, we’ve created a WebDiggin Technorati profile as another site linking to, well, Webdiggin.com! (And we’ve created this post because we needed to include a link to our Technorati Profile so that their spiders could come over and have tea and validate us as the owners of this wonderful blog.)

Technorati claims to be the recognized authority about what is happening on the net, right now: “Technorati. Who’s saying what. Right now.” They’re probably right. Their about us page boasts that they are currently tracking over 112 million blogs and 250 million pieces of tagged social media.

“According to Technorati data, there are over 175,000 new blogs (that’s just blogs) every day. Bloggers update their blogs regularly to the tune of over 1.6 million posts per day, or over 18 updates a second.”

Bottom line is they’re like the Google of Blogs. If your blog is publicly accessible, you’re probably pinging the world with every post you publish. Technorati takes a snapshot of your post and publishes an exerpt in their search directory.

We’re signing up with an account today to claim our blog and to be part of the fun. Bloggers inheriently link to other blog posts, so the more incoming links you have to a post, the higher up the authority rating goes, and the more credibility you are seen to have.

Technorati Authority is the number of blogs linking to a website in the last six months. The higher the number, the more Technorati Authority the blog has.

We currently have a technorati rank of 8,911,336. I’m not sure you can get worse than that, but it provides a benchmark to see whether all of our social networking is paying off.

Technorati Rank is calculated based on how far you are from the top. The blog with the hightest Technorati Authority is the #1 ranked blog. The smaller your Technorati Rank, the closer you are to the top.

So… we are 8,911,336 blogs away from being the number one post.
