Cash Flow Report: Jan 2008
January 2008 was good. We showed a profit of $137.84 through affiliate marketing. By moving over our websites to bluehost we received a coupon for $45 from Google AdWords and $50 from Yahoo Search Marketing which offset some of our affiliate marketing costs. (If we ignore the free coupons, January 2008 still had a profit of $43.24, which is a big difference from our cashflow in 2007 where for the most part, we were losing money every month. The majority of our Commission Junction money came from our work with an online retailer and some secret discounts from online purchases.

Our $135.40 of webhosting expenses in January included 1 year of hosting at BlueHost ($95.40) and 4 additional domain name registrations ($10/domain name). Of course, this cost would have been offset by the money we received from Google AdWords and Yahoo Search Marketing as we wrote about in our post about why we switched to BlueHost:
Sign up for a year at $95.40 ($7.95/month) or two years at $166.80 ($6.95/month). You get one free domain registration for as long as you maintain an account at BlueHost. You can link an unlimited number of add on domains to your account so trying out different types of websites will only cost you the price of additional domain registrations ($10.00 per domain) … And, you get $100 of free credit and Google AdWords and Yahoo Search Marketing to either 1. promote your new website, or 2. try your hand at search marketing.
Jan 2008 was unusually profitable because of the Google and Yahoo coupons. Feb 2008 should be profitable assuming that our current affiliate marketing campaign continues to work and we don’t loose too much money experimenting with other avenues.
For now, we’re examining the profit and loss of our cashflow statements based on the event date, but we’re looking at the success of an affiliate campaign based on the click date. (The event date is the date when an affiliate transaction occurs. The click date is when the visitor first clicks on the affiliate link in our ad and we’re charged money for the ad.)
