The experiment continues. Affiliate Millionnaire by Anthony Borelli and Greg Holden has been my guide to this world of Search Marketing. With it, we’ve set up a Google AdWords account as well as an account at Commission Junction. Our first Ad Campaign was designed for an online telephone product which we use.
So, happy that we could find a product we use ourselves, we launched our Ad Campaign. We used Commission Junction’s 3 month “EPC” (Earnings per hundred clicks) data as a guideline to set our maximum bid for Google AdWords. Not much happened. We played with the targetted keywords and the ad wording as well. We made sure my links opened to the correct page with information and easy links to buy the product. No luck. We increased the maximum bids we were willing to pay, again, and again, and again. et voila! Somewhere in there we had our first purchase, followed by a repeat purchase by the same buyer. Our first commission!
We launched another product with Google AdWords. Same thing. Used Commission Junction’s EPC data as a guideline for our maximum bid. Nothing. Increased the bid. Nothing, Increase the bid again, et voila! Today we had another purchase. Our second commission! And then nothing.
We’ve tried increasing our bids per click to see if we could get more traffic to our advertised affiliate products. In theory, the current amount we are bidding is significantly more than what Commission Junction says is the estimated earnings per hundred clicks, so we’re waiting to see if this works or if our expenses will greatly exceed our profits.
Our current costs with Google Adwords is $27.00.
Our current (yet not received) commissions is $11.68 + $12.41 = $24.09.
Our current loss: $2.91 (Not including the $10.00 Google AdWords set up fee)
We’re hoping by bidding more for the keywords, we’ll get more clicks and we can see how well the clicks convert into commissions. Then we can judge whether the ad campaign is effective or not. The other thing we have to remember is that with both of these products, it takes a few days for transactions to be processed. (In fact, the tracking cookie will credit your affiliate account for up to 90 days after the initial click, so in theory, we might not know how successful a campaign is until 90 days after it starts.)
The experiment continues.
