WebDiggin.com is an adventure to Make Money Online. The WebDiggin cashflow report is where we show you how much money we’ve made and lost online.

Mar 2008 Cashflow - WebDiggin - An Adventure to Make Money OnlineWe’re doing okay.

Sure, some blogs are pulling in thousands of dollars each month, but we’re happy with the fact that we made money in the last 3 months (instead of lose money like we did in 2007).

We had a profit of $103.14 in March 2008 through our various projects to make money online.

So. Lets look at the numbers.

Internet Income Stream #1: Search Marketing (Pay Per Click Affiliate Marketing)

  • So far, our affiliate marketing campaign is holding up with recent changes in the way Yahoo is dealing with keyword bidding. (We thought our campaign would slow down or stop completely, but our ads have recently gotten a quality index score of 5 out of 5 on Yahoo.)

  • We made $309.76 from affiliate sales (commission junction). The bulk of that came from leads through our Pay Per Click (PPC) ads that we are running on Yahoo Search Marketing and Google AdWords.

  • We’ve recently signed up with MSN AdCenter, but so far, we haven’t been able to get our ads to stay approved. We did however receive a $50 credit that is valid until June 2008. (*If you are looking for a $50 Canadian Coupon Code for AdCenter, try CAAC2C. If that doesn’t work, call the 1-800 number. They were able to help me to find a promotional code that worked.)

  • We spent $299.60 on advertising, so as a rough estimate, we’ve only made $10.16 from PPC marketing, but, we’ve moved over $2000 of merchandise, so we’re expecting a 20% bonus to come in a month and a half. (We should be making another $60 somewhere down the line).

Internet Income Stream #2: Content Websites

  • A small portion of our affiliate commissions from CJ came from niche content websites selling SkypePro and domain name products. We’re making a push for our BlueHost review, but haven’t had any sales yet.

  • The majority of income from contextual ads (Google AdSense: $37.16, Rubicon Project: $2.67) came from a number of our side projects and include AdSense boxes and Google Search boxes.

  • Our webhosting costs are for the the purchase of 3 domain names. (Three $10 .com domain names bought through BlueHost.)

  • We also purchased Josh Spaulding’s Article Domination e-book. and we’re trying to follow his strategy of making niche sites that make $5 / day with AdSense.

  • We are starting to experiment with contests to build readership and interest at WebDiggin. It’s nice to be talking to someone other than myself. It would also be nice if we could build relationships with people and presell some of the products we use and recover our investment in prize money.

Internet Income Stream #3: Sponsored Posts

  • We are experimenting with making money through sponsored posts. (It might also explain why our blog has a Google PageRank of 0.)

  • We’re using the money from sponsored posts as seed money for some of our other projects (including our current $25 subscription contest.)

Bottom Line: Keep moving forwards.

  • We’ve recently cranked up the budget on our PPC affiliate marketing campaign, but we haven’t really been doing the number crunching to see if we’re making money. So we have to tweak that campaign, and see if we can’t get some campaigns running on the other ad networks.

  • We’re trying to improve our PageRank and Alexa scores to open up better PayPerPost opportunities.

  • By working on increasing the readership of this blog, we’re trying to get more traffic here and we’re working on building relationships and learning communities. (Sure, we’re paying people to be our friends. What’s wrong with that?)

Well I think you are doing a great job here.

You are not afraid to put your money where you mouth is and I am sure it will not be long before you start to hit it big.

My journey into affiliate marketing is going very poorly right now! I will work it out soon I am sure!

  2. WebDiggin Says:

@Forest Parks - Thanks for the kind words. It’ll be nice if we make it big. One day…

By the way, you asked a question on your blog about whether we had an affiliate marketing campaign that worked by sending the traffic straight to the merchant’s landing page. It tooks us some time to stop procrastinating and crunch some numbers, but the next post is for you.

(We didn’t have much luck pushing vista print very well. We had better luck with 123inkjets, but then we discovered they don’t allow you to direct link to their site, so we stopped. Actually, I think the commissions dried up and then we realized what we were doing wrong.)

  3. Dennis Edell Says:

I briefly tried vista print also. I think they’re just way to big with the word of mouth advertising at this point; hey go to vista print dot com! etc.

    Know what I mean?

I’ve also never understood why a company would not want affiliates linking straight to them…they’re earning from it right?

Dennis Edell’s last blog post..We Are Officially A FULL FEED RSS! But The Blogs Look Will Change :-)

  4. WebDiggin Says:

Hey Dennis. We tried on a few different occasions to get our vista print account to go, but it never did.

I think the reason why some companies don’t allow direct linking is because they don’t want you targeting the head of the traffic snake, they want you going after the tail end (the people who are only marginally interested) and convincing them (preselling them) to buy from Vista print.

(I think this is also why some companies don’t allow you to use their brand in the keywords / ads / url.)

Vista print’s affiliate program seems to target new customers (as opposed to getting current customers to buy more.) For example, you can’t use your own affiliate links to make self-purchases with Vista print, but you can with some other affiliate programs.

We’ve only really focused on direct linking from the PPC search engines, but we’ve visited a few blogs out here where people are saying you make more money with a good landing page that presells before the traffic clicks over to the direct site. It’s one of the projects on our backburner…

  5. Andi Eko Says:

So, you need a pagerank to make more money on Payperpost. But it need a hardwork and not like the othe affiliation marketing. But to close all your expense it is OK to make money from writing like payperpost or other publisher site. Well done :)
