Contest now closed. Find out who won $25. |
Mirjam won our $5 comment contest. She turned around and flipped that $5 into five new domain names with free privacy registration. (Here’s how she registered those domain names for $1 each.)
Imagine what you could do with a $25 prize.
(That’s a dumb question. You could buy 25 domain names…)
The Contest
We made about $75 in sponsored posts last month. And we’re giving it all away.
Why? Because what goes around comes around and we believe in giving first. That’s why our blog is comment-friendly.
What we want
We want to see if we can get 100 subscribers before the end of April.
So, we’re running a $25 contest. If it works well and we are able to reach our goal of 100 new subscribers, we’ll keep on running the contest every month (until we run out of PayPerPost money, or we can’t pull in 100 new subscribers in a month)
There are 3 ways to win: 1. subscribe to our updates, 2. leave a couple of comments
, or 3. post on your blog a link to this contest post.
What you get in return
- One lucky person is going to win $25 (paid through paypal)
- Everyone who leaves a comment get their backlink with the pagerank turned on. Heck, Cheap Web Hosts left a few comments on here and got 14 links back to his site. All with our beautiful PR0 link juice turned on.
- We use CommentLuv to link to your latest post
- We follow on comment links
- We link back to the Top Commentators
How do you win the $25? Easy. Here are your options. (Why, yes. It does look like Gorilla Sushi’s contest. Imagine that.)
Sign up for our email subscription (2 entries).
- Sure, put us in your RSS feed reader if that floats your boat, but if you want a ballot for the prize money, you gotta give us your email address. Otherwise, it’s a hassle to figure out if you really did subscribe to our RSS feed.
- Just enter your email address at the top of this page. It’s that simple. Heck, enter in more than one email address. We don’t care. And, we can’t tell. Just make sure they’re valid email accounts that you control or when we send you that paypal check, you won’t get it.
Leave a Comment on Any Post (1 entry)
- Add to the conversation, say something meaningful, and we’ll give you 1 entry per comment.
- All comments made in the month of April count (even if it was before this contest was officially launched)
- Make sure you leave a real email address when you leave your comment because that’s where we’re sending the paypal cheque to if you win.
Write a post about this WebDiggin contest on your blog (25 entries).
- Write a post linking back to this page: http://webdiggin.com/195/win-25-dollars-for-subscribing
- The link has to be dofollow. If you turn off the link juice by adding a rel=”nofollow”, it doesn’t count.
- Please only write one post per blog. (If you have multiple blogs, by all means, feel free to write multiple posts from different blogs)
Contest Rules
- You must be over 18 years old to participate.
- Contest begins on April 1, 2008 and ends on April 30, 2008 – 11:59PM EST. One winner will be selected in a random drawing.
- Prize: One winner will receive $25 USD paid through paypal. You must have a valid paypal account to receive your prize.
- Visitors can enter as many times as they like. No purchase is necessary to enter and win.
- We reserve the right to withhold entries for unacceptable comments or posts.
- Local laws apply to the contest and the contest is void where prohibited or restricted by law.
Bottom Line: Add your email to our subscriber list, Add a comment at the end of this post, Post a link to this contest post = Win $25. You might as well enter because everyone else is too lazy to try.
Question: Our goal is to break 100 subscribers on WebDiggin by the end of April 2008. Think we can do it?

Hey Rai,
Your post looks good. The link juice is on, so we’re counting that as 25 ballots. (Which puts you in the lead. We’ll post all the entries received so far on our contest page.)

From: Article Specialist
Btw, I noticed that you wrote something wrong:
“There are 3 ways to win: 1. subscribe to our updates, 2. leave a couple of contests, …”
#2 should be:
“leave a couple of comments”
April 14th, 2008 at 5:27 pm
Hey Article Specialist – I added the comment you sent to our entrecard mailbox as a comment here so it would count as a ballot towards the $25. Thanks for telling us about the error.
I guess you could leave a couple of contests, but comments would be better
Thanks, again.

April 24th, 2008 at 3:33 am
Hey Wayne – thanks for the link back. 25 ballots your way for that, plus whatever more you have from leaving comments and signing up for the email RSS feed (if you did that)
By the way, I wanted to reply to your post about using a subdomain as a sales site, but your comments form on your posts were all closed. We’ve launched one of our domain names project as a subdomain on this blog. I think we regret it.
I think Google considers them to be separate websites in the search engines, but the pagerank on WebDiggin extends to the pagerank on the subdomain. (We saw this happen with another domain of ours).
I’d like to think that this site is at least worthy of a PR1 by now with 906 Yahoo back links. But, because we do sponsored posts, I assume we’ve been slapped by Google to have a pagerank of 0.
Good luck with your contest entries.

Hey Wayne – post looks good. 25 ballots.
Hey Mirjam – post looks good as well. 25 ballots. Winner will be selected randomly by numbering all the ballots and selecting a number from random.org.
That way everyone has a chance to win, but the people who are keen can increase their chances of winning by participating more. Good luck! I know if you win, you’ll just get 25 more domain names!
April 24th, 2008 at 7:57 am
Hi Mark
yep, you are so right on that!
I saw some concerns about .info domains when I initially posted about it, people seem to be worries about them being treated as scammers by google, and I have done some digging about that issue. All different information you can find as always online, people saying it does not have influence, other saying the complete opposite.
In the end I believe that it really does not matter. If you have a good site with good information and make sure you do a lot of linking, you will get organic traffic, no matter whether your domain ends with .com or .info.
Why do you regret having set up your domain names project on a subdomain?

Hey Mirjam – I regret setting up the domain names project on a subdomain of WebDiggin because I think WebDiggin will always be slapped with a PageRank of 0 because of our sponsored posts. So, then the subdomain project will always have a PR of 0 as well. (Am I right about that or have I made a mistake?)
Hey Guadagna, Give Away City, Ace – Your posts looks good. 25 ballots to each of you for the link. Good luck!
Hey Colorful Mars – Unfortunately your post has a nofollow tag in your link back to this site, so we can’t count that as an entry until you remove the nofollow tags. Let us know when you’ve updated the links and we’ll award you 25 ballots.
(on a side note, I didn’t realize that a nofollow link back to the blog would still get picked up as a trackback or pingback link, or whatever those thingies are called. Comment 33)

Louis (#36), – the posts looks good, so 25 ballots for the posts.
Andi (#37) – second post from the same blog doesn’t count, but appreciated
Hope you win!
Gushere (#38) – couldn’t find a link back to this site, but if you’ve signed up for the email RSS feed, then that’s 2 ballots. I don’t know which one is yours, but as long as you received that confirmation from feedburner in your inbox and confirmed the subscription, your email is in the list and you’re good to go.
Angelo (#40) – post looks good. 25 ballots, good luck!
Robin (#41) – Glad you like the prize. I thought cash might be more useful than advertising space. Good luck!
Repah (#42) – went to www.supahrepah.com, but couldn’t find your post? Did you post about it? At least, you’ve got a ballot for comment #42!
Cyber (#44) – Another 25 ballots.
Myrna (#47) – Glad you like it. Everyone could do with a little more paypal cash
Rai (#49) – Hey Rai, you’ve got at least 28 ballots, because every comment you leave is worth a ballot, and I think you’ve commented in here a few times. Thanks for the compliment. I guess the contest did turn out well – thanks for being the first one for entering
