Thank you!We recently concluded our first ever blog contest on WebDiggin. Mirjam won $5 just for sharing her two cents across our comment forms. But was that a decent prize? Perhaps we should have gotten her a card instead.

CardsDirect creates Custom Photo Cards where you can write anything you want on the front and inside of the cards.

They have pictures that say “Merry Christmas” on the front of the card design and inside page, but those are just suggestions. You could just as easily write “Mary Christmas” to your friends named Mary. (There’s something about Mary, I know. )

Sure, everyone thinks “holidays” when you see photocards, but you can use them for so much more.

  • I suppose we could have mailed a, “Congratulations, you have just won…” card to Me Myself and I blog.
  • With so few readers, we could probably afford to send each one of our 7 subscribers a thank you note for reading our blog. (On a serious note, you could send out a thank you card to people who bought your e-book. Talk about standing above the competition.)
  • You could send the a-list blogs a card with your blog logo on the front and a note on the inside saying that you’d make a great guest-blogger on their page.
  • Send an un-birthday card for all those 364 days when it’s not their birthday.

Actually. That’s not a bad idea. If we ever did get to the point where we were selling an ebook, you could easily absorb the cost of a card and shipping in the price of the ebook.

Then when someone bought your ebook, you could send out the card with a discount coupon… maybe a custom site on your website that redirects them to an affiliate link that offers $25 off when you register with service x. Or a discount code on another one of your ebooks.

Lots of people download free ebooks, but never get through them. So if you send a card out in snail mail, they might be reminded and use your stuff. Food for thought. Custom cards aren’t just for holidays, you know.

Question: Do you think outside of the box when it comes to promoting your blog? What do you do?
