Free Keyword Analysis using WordTracker to Identify Hot Keywords for Search Marketing Advertising Campaigns
In my quest to find keywords to use in my search marketing ad campaigns, I’ve found a little website called Wordtracker. There are two great things I love about Wordtracker. First, it provides a 2 hour free keyword analysis search to try their product. (But you can keep on signing up for the free trial, so it’s wonderful.) Second, when you sign up for their product, Wordtracker provides you with daily reports of the top 1000 keywords searched in the last 24 hours.
After filling out the form and sending in your email for their free trial, you’re granted 2 hour access to their Wordtracker database. Wordtracker periodically compiles a database of over 330 million search terms for the past 3 months which is updated on a weekly basis. All search terms are collected from the major metacrawlers - Dogpile and Metacrawler. There are 4 steps in the process. Step 1 - Use word tracker to brainstorm keyword ideas, Step 2 – discover what people are actually searching for, Step 3 – consolidate and cherry pick the keywords to analyze, and Step 4 – manage the keywords and do some deep keyword analysis.
Step 1. You type in your keyword suggestion and the website suggests related keywords for you to consider searching. My starting keyword suggestion was “keyword searching for search marketing advertising campaign” and it produced the following suggestions: keyword searching for search marketing advertising campaign, marketing, search, advertising, search engine optimization, engine, web engine optimization, keyword, Search, seo, keywords, optimization, internet marketing, ppc, pay per click.
In Step 2, when you click on one of the suggested phrases, it searches the Wordtracker database of metacrawler queries to produce a table with a list of keywords, the count of those keywords in the last 90 days, and a prediction of how much traffic would result today in all of the major search engines/pay per bids and directories today including Google, Yahoo, Msn, Aol, Ask, Altavista, Excite, and Lycos search engines.
In the trial version, you can deeply analyze up to a total of 30 keywords at a time. In the paid version, you can analyze up to 500 keywords at a time. (This doesn’t seem to be a huge selling feature for me, because you don’t really need 500 keywords at a time. But the trial version doesn’t provide you with full access to their database – just the first 15 keywords and non-adult material.) I went through the suggested terms from step 1 to pick 20 keywords to do some deep analysis with.
Step 3 is the place to print or email the keywords. It allows me options to export keywords, email the keywords, or simply move onto step 4 to find my niche in the search engines.
In Step 4, Wordtracker compares each of my keywords with the major search engines. During the trial, it only uses MSN, but in the full subscription you can access all of the major engines. Some of my keywords have very few competing web pages and these are the niche keywords for me to target!
My two top key words based on this search was: “pay per click canada ” and “keyword analysis research”. Pay per click canada appeared in their database 29 times with a predicted search of 5 times in the next 24 hours. It also had 26 websites listed for the term (the competition!) as well as a Keyword Effectiveness Index (KEI) analysis score of 32.346.
The KEI compares the Count result (number of times a keyword has appeared in the data) with the number of competing web pages to pinpoint exactly which keywords are most effective for your campaign. In a nutshell: The higher the KEI, the more popular your keywords are, and the less competition they have. Which means you have a better chance of getting to the top.
In looking at the data for the keywords that appeared the most in the Wordtracker database over the last 3 months: “Search Engine Optimization” was requested 7158 times and had over 8 million webpages competing for the highest ranks. I imagine this keyword would be great to do a sponsored ad using Google AdWords because it is a highly sought after term.
If you’re wondering how you actually get these words to the top, they have some great articles on how to weave those words into the website. They also recommend using an affiliated search engine optimization site. They even email you the results of your keyword analysis and tell you in the email, “Feel free to use the trial as many times as you like!”
For most people, the free trial version is probably enough, but there were a few options offered by the full Wordtracker service that I needed to use in my quest for making thousands of dollars online using affiliate marketing. When you sign up, it also provides a mis-spellings search which is a sneakier way to increase traffic. Why target ‘Yahoo’ when you can find out how many people are searching for ‘Yhaoo’ or ‘Yaahoo’!
However, the best part of their service is that as an added bonus, they also provide: the top 1000 keywords from the last 90 days and the most recent top 1000 keywords from the last 48 hours. These reports are both updated once a day and available with or without pornographic keywords. This is what caught my eye because it would allow me to know what the biggest keywords are that are being used in search engines like Google and MSN. Then I can find affiliate programs for related products and make bids for those keywords using Google AdSense. Wordtracker lets you watch the surges as they happen in real time!
I’m trying to find my way to online internet riches for the first time here. I’m not prepared to pay $275.88 for a 1 year subscription. Maybe after I have a few successes, I might try their one month subscription that goes for $55.18. But right now, it’s the one-week subscription at $27.59 so I can target my search marketing advertising campaign towards specific keywords. Like all good companies, Wordtracker has a money back refund policy:
And remember….if at any point you feel this service does not fulfil your needs, simply send us an e-mail and we will refund your credit card immediately.
Now that I know about which keywords to use, I’m looking into affiliate programs for products to sell. Stay tuned to see if I can make an online fortune.
