Use Entrecard to Improve your Alexa Ranking and Open Up Pay Per Post Opportunities
We’re looking for a way to unlock some of the higher paying sponsored post opportunities on PayPerPost. Heck. We’re looking for a way to open up sponsored post opportunities, period.
The problem is we’re a low ranking blog. PageRank of 0. Alex Rank of 1,157,453. Our Tack Rating is average.
In other words, there are only a few opportunities available to us on the PayPerPost marketplace… And they’re always taken.
One of the ways you can open up more payperpost opportunities is to improve your Alexa pagerank. MoneyBite’s post about Entrecard’s future talks about how many people use Entrecard dropping as a way of getting a better Alexa rank.
Basically, you sign up for an Entrecard account, paste the widget on your blog, and then attract other visitors to drop their entrecard on your website. Mattaw compared Entrecard to web cocaine. You get lured into the Entrecard network: I drop on your blog, you follow and drop on mine. Because a lot of entrecard users have the Alexa toolbar installed, when they visit your site, your Alexa ranking improves… which should open up PayPerPost opportunities.
But here’s the addition that Mattaw points out:
Once you’re in you’re hooked. You can’t stop using the system [or] you will see a drop in your Alexa rank and traffic. Since I assume the goal of most websites is to get a lot of traffic and become known, you will want to keep using the system.
Bottom Line: We’re starting to socialize more with Entrecard, trying to improve our Alexa ranking, and ultimately open up more opportunities with PayPerPost. A roundabout way to get more money through sponsored posts.
Question: Which ranking system keeps you up at night? Getting a good score with Google PageRank? Technorati? Alexa? Something else?

If you depend on link or site selling as a form of monetization you will definitely want to increase your http://www.alexa.com/data/details/main?url=www.fortunehotels.in Alexa rank, because it will increase your bargaining power when it comes to ad pricing.

Do you make a lot of money doing link selling? We haven’t gone that route yet, but we’ve briefly looked into it…

Yes, I completely agree in the importance of the Alexa Pagerank system. Its not very easy to cheat, and it is reliable. The difficulties are however, getting enough users with alexa to visit your page.
Thanks for the info on Entrecard, I’m going to try it now.

I’ve heard mix reviews about Alexa.
Some people laugh when they hear companies promoting Alexa ranking because they know that the ranking system is biased towards industries filled with computer-savvy people that have the alexa toolbar downloaded. (So tech sites tend to do disproportionally well.)
Other people laugh at Alexa because they say you can game the system. We haven’t tried, but apparently you can download software to refresh a webpage every couple of minutes. (I think it’s used to check your bid on an online auction). Because your Alexa rank is affected by how many unique IP addresses visit your site every day, if you install an anonymous proxy, you can trick Alexa into thinking you are someone else every time your webpage refreshing software reloads your page.
We can’t figure out if this strategy is a scam because most of the products we looked into cost money to use. So we never bothered to find out.

Entrecard is kind of fun. Kind of addicting…
But is it productive? Hard to say. We’ve landed on some interesting sites that we’ve stopped to check around. Some of those people have landed back here and become subscribers.
We’ll see how long we keep up with the entrecard game. We haven’t started to advertise on other blogs yet, so that’s the next step for us once we build up some credits.
