Cheap Web Hosts pulled into the lead as the top commentor on this blog. Just by commenting on WebDiggin, Cheap Web Hosts has created 14 separate links back to their site. 14 links with all of pagerank link juice flowing back to their site. Did we mention the 14 links?

How did Cheap Web Hosts get 14 links back to their site? Well, because this blog is comment-friendly. We use CommentLuv to link to your latest post. We follow on comment links. We link back to the Top Commentators.

So here’s the math:

  1. Cheap Web Hosts made 8 comments on various posts in this blog. That’s 8 separate links back to their website. Although CommentLuv picked up some of the latest posts, it only points towards the feedburner website, so I don’t think that counts for any link juice.
  2. By being one of the top commentators, the Top Commentator plugin links to Cheap Web Host directly with page rank juice.
  3. Finally, we show our 5 most recent comments in the sidebar, which means, that right now Cheap Web Host has 5 links pointing back to their site. (But that will change, the moment somebody else makes a comment.)

As a bonus, we happen to be blogging about them in this post. So there’s another link back. Plus, we noticed they did something interesting to cloak their affiliate links in their site. So that will be the topic of a future post. Another link there.

(Yeah, I know, I know. We’re still PR0. But we’re working on it…)

Bottom Line. Cheap Web Hosts got 16 links pointing back to their site just by actively commenting on WebDiggin. If you’re going to comment on blogs, make it worth your while and find blogs that link back to you in a genuine way. (Not just link exchanges.)

Question. What stops you from leaving a comment when you visit another blog?

I am wondering if cloaking affiliate links just makes people not trust you unless of course your post reveals something different, so looking forward to the post.

I think a comment luv post that allowed the commenter to pick their favorite post as well as latest post would be cool.

Hey Forest Parks… I’m coming to the conclusion that there are two types of people out there. People who know about affiliate links and people who don’t.

I think the people who know about affiliate links know recognize them no matter how you try to hide them. Tiny Urls, php redirects, hiding them from mouseovers, 301 redirects… the bottom line is when I land on another advertiser’s webpage, I know it was an affiliate link. Heck, I might even recognize it from Commission Junction. Chances are I’ll buy and give them the commission, especially if I feel they really swung my vote.

The other kind of web surfers don’t know about affiliate links. I think what turns them off is if the link looks messy with letters, numbers, question marks, and & symbols. I like the way Cheap Web Hosts hides the affiliate links with a php link. Does an affiliate link keep them from buying? I don’t think so, as long as you’ve done a good job of preselling. That’s the strategy we’re trying now.

But really, you should’ve left this comment on our contest post. That way you could have had a shot at winning $5. (I think your chances if you post now are 1 in 9 for each comment you leave behind…)

You could always turn off the CommentLuv when you leave a message and manually enter in your favourite post…

    Hi WebDiggin,

I agree with you. We worry too much because we are webmasters and we behave and think as webmasters. But the ordinary surfer does not even know that there is a browser named Firefox. My friend, who is a University graduate, asked me: “Who owns the Internet”?

So long as we don’t redirect people to sites that buy kidneys or fake Viagras, I believe there is no problem with redirection. We are only providing a clean interface to our visitors.

On the other hand, I got your email. Thank you. I have added WebDiggin to my BlogRoll. I like your website because of its honesty. It doesn’t pretend how much it earns. WebDiggin tells the story as it is.

On the php redirection code that you mentioned in the email, it looks almost the same, but without this line: header(”Location:”.$links[$_G

Glad to see a CommentLuv plugin in your website.

    All the Best,
    Webhosting Reality

Yeah, sorry about the php code. I thought I was so sneaky and found a way to show scheduled posts before they get published. In fact, all adding ?preview=true to the end of the website address is just hide any google ads that might be in there. (The only way to see those scheduled posts is if you’re logged in to the wordpress blog.) Good to know.

Appreciate the comment about the honesty. Hoping that one day, we’ll have a positive cashflow, and the honesty will help build relationships (and commissions through preselling.)

    Good luck to you too.

You shoulda left this comment in the $5 comment post and had a chance at winning a whopping $5. Coffee at Starbucks.
