Sigh. Our Oyster Joke post was rejected by PayPerPost:

“Thank you for your post! Unfortunately, we are unable to approve this post because it fails to meet the listed criteria in the Opportunity description. Specifically, the Advertiser is requesting:-”Create a post featuring an oyster joke of your own invention such as ‘What did one oyster say to the other?’ or starting with ‘Two oysters walk into a bar…’ Then please talk about the Be Oyster Aware website.” which you do not have in your post. Please revisit the Opportunity description, make the appropriate changes to your post and resubmit.”

So… what was the problem?

Maybe I got rejected because I only displayed part of the post on the main page of the WebDiggin website. (I used the more tag in WordPress to show an exerpt so the main website page wasn’t too cluttered.)

Maybe I got rejected because I tried to write the sponsored post in a natural way. This is a blog about making money online. So, my angle was about another blog that had done this sponsored post that had a great Oyster joke introduction and sucked me in. I used the angle of how a catchy title and introduction could get you to read about material before you realized it was a sponsored post. And, then I went into my lame oyster joke.

Maybe that wasn’t good enough. So, I republished my original post with another lame oyster joke at the very start to make it more obvious, and I took out the “more tag” so that the entire post would show on the first page.

The last time PayPerPost rejected my post, they basically told me to sod off. I couldn’t resubmit the post and try again. This time, PayPerPost let me do the opportunity again and resubmit my post which was nice.

We’ll see what happens and whether we get paid for this post.

Bottom Line: I’m not sure what the bottom line is. Make sure you make it obvious that you are following the instructions in the opportunity?

Question: Has anyone else had a PayPerPost or sponsored post rejected before? What did you do?

I have had a few posts rejected and even if told to sod off, I correct them and resubmit. So far so good they have all been accepted.

Normally it’s because I have accidentely put two sponsored posts next to each other! Oops!

Forest Parks’s last blog post..Proof that Micro Niche Finder 3 is working for me…

Good to know that we can always resubmit them when they get rejected. The first post we submitted about PayPerPost got rejected and they wouldn’t let us take the opportunity again. Maybe they’ve changed their policy so they don’t lose business to the competition.

FYI We included a proper link to your oyster joke in this post. Enjoy our PageRank0 link juice.

I signed up with Pay Per Post and they have approved one of my blog sites. The problem is that until now there are no open opportunities for me. I just gave up checking my account to find out of open opportunities. Smorty has been doing well. Opportunities are coming in on a constant basis. Someday I will try Pay Per Post again. Hopefully Google won’t slap me with PR0.

Isn’t your webhostreality.blogspot site already a PR0? Or did it just get slapped?

I know what you mean about PayPerPost never having any opportuntiies. It’s just hit or miss when they show up. I’ve changed my homepage to be the opportunities listing – every now and then something good shows up. Maybe I’ll give smorty a try.

We’ve made $50 from PayPerPost in March, so I think of all the things we’re doing right now, that’s our bread and butter. (Especially because it didn’t cost any money to get the $50. You can’t make millions doing sponsored posts, but at least it can start the ball rolling)

Have you made a lot of money with Smorty?

Our Oyster joke was accepted. I wonder if they people actually read those posts to check that they meet the standards, or if a robot does it… Does anyone know?

    Hi WebDiggin,

The slapping festival (courtesy of Google) has prompted many blog owners to remove the PayPerPost code from their web sites. I was about to display the PayPerPost badge in one of my blog sites, but people at Smorty had earlier pushed the warning button.

Web Hosting Reality blog is experimental. As of two weeks ago, it had PR3. I won’t be bothered if I would be awarded by Google with PR-zero. It seems there is so much obsession with PR galore when in fact there are thousands of sites that show up on top Google search results, yet they are without PR to boast of.

On the first week that I joined Smorty I immediately earned $30. The minimum payment per post is $6.

One of my wild imaginations is that “what if Google would buy Smorty, PayPerPost, ReviewMe, etc”?

  7. WebDiggin Says:

Yeah, I have a love-hate relationship with Google as well. (They also own feedburner which we all use.)

Someone brought my attention to a difference between the pagerank in the toolbar and the pagerank that they use in their search algorithms. I know I’ve read that other payperpost users have had their PageRank slashed, but they still get the same level of traffic from the search engines, so they haven’t worried about it.

Our PR is 0. I wish we could say it used to be higher, but we got penalized, but sadly, no. We’ve always been a PR0.

But we’ve made a huge mistake. We launched our mini site about domain names as a subdomain of this site (domainnames.webdiggin.com) because we wanted to save the $10 domain name fee… but, that means whatever PR we get on WebDiggin will be the pagerank we get on our domain names mini-site. Which sucks, because we’re promoting that mini-site to target niche keywords.

Bottom line is I wonder whether the PR slap for taking sponsored posts is a public relations thing or has genuine impact on natural search engine listings.

(How do you find the quality of the opportunities on Smorty? I signed up for Sponsored Reviews, but at first glance, didn’t see anything I wanted to blog about.)
