We opened WebDiggin.com and boo-yaah! We are the 962,510th best blog in the World (according to Technorati) Why, a week ago, we were the 2,910,025 best blog in the world. When we started, we were closer to the 9 millionth best blog in the world.

What does this mean? Absolutely nothing.

  • Google PageRank is determined by the quantity and quality of incoming links to your site.
  • Alexa ranking is determined by how often you are visited by websurfers who have the Alexa toolbar installed.
  • And, Technorati ranking is determined by how many blogposts link to posts on your site. (It’s also affected by how many people have listed your site as one of their favourites. That’s why we’re trying out this technique to get more favorites on Technorati.)

So how did we improve our technorati rank?

  1. We started to comment on blogs that are blogger-friendly and use CommentLuv, follow on their comment links, or link back to their Top Commentators. Then our blog-reactions started to show up in Technorati.
  2. We started to link all of our blogs together. Before, we used to link to the website domain like SocialMonkeys.com, but now we link directly to a post (like this helping hand post at Ripples of Kindness)
  3. We’re branding our name by grabbing our name at various locations, including WebDiggin.BlogSpot.com and WebDiggin.WordPress.com. (Notice how we liked to the post and not the website? That’ll show up as an authority on those blogs now.)

Does this mean anything? Absolutely not. Our traffic is starting to come in from natural and organic google searches like how to create a website on bluehost. Still, it’s nice to see that we broke the 1 million mark.
