Seeing as how we are using Technorati to benchmark our success with this blog, we’ve decided to raise the profile of Technorati on this blog. We looked for ways to make it easy for bloggers to book mark us.

First, we’ve added the Technorati WordPress plugin to keep tabs on our rank. (We’re now the 2,124,856th best blog in the world! Previously, the 2,910,025th best blog…) Simply get your API key from Technorati, enter in the options page, and you’re good to go - display your Technorati rank in a sidebar widget.

Second, we added the sociable plugin which puts in a row of icons at the bottom of a post so that users can click and add material to their favourite social networking sites. I’m a little confused on who the author is. (It seems to have been recently updated.) Regardless, it’s a nice little something at the bottom of the post.

Third, we looked for a widget or a 1-click button to allow bloggers to favourite this blog on Technorati. We did create an account with AddThis which provides a single button that allows you to link to a variety of social networking sites, including technorati, facebook, del.icio.us, digg, etc… The only problem is that it’s not a 1-click solution.

We have seen little green buttons for technorati, but unfortunately couldn’t figure out where they came from. Finally, we found code that allows you to create text links to over 100 social networking sites. It’s not for the technophobic faint-of-heart, but it gives you instructions on how to modify the link for Blogger, TypePad, WordPress or Javascript. Too bad the little icons don’t work properly.

Dosh Dosh ponders the relevance of social bookmarking and cites a social bookmarking usage poll where 81 people (37%) use them, 99 people (45%) never used them, and 41 people (19%) had no clue what they were. Although statistically, 64% of voters don’t use social bookmarking buttons, it means roughly 37% of people still do. And that’s who we’re targeting when we include the option to social bookmark on this site.

I just registered a new blog with Technorati, and lo and behold, found the links I was looking for. Grr. So, I’ll just paste the code here for future reference. Just make sure to change YOURWEBSITE.COM to, well, your website.
